Meet Our Counsellor
Walter Sienko is a highly accomplished Psycho-spiritual Counselor and Meditation Instructor with a distinguished career spanning over three and a half decades. His extensive background is built upon a foundation of academic rigor and diverse experiential training, making him uniquely suited to support individuals navigating the profound challenges of cancer. Mr. Sienko holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from Brandon University and a Post-Degree Diploma in Counseling from George Brown College, providing a robust theoretical framework for his practice.
For 35 years, Mr. Sienko has been dedicated to the fields of counseling and group work, guiding individuals and groups through transformative processes of personal and professional development. His expertise extends to the facilitation of non-ordinary states of consciousness, a practice he has cultivated for two decades, which can be invaluable in helping individuals process complex emotions, find inner peace, and reframe their experience during illness. This deep engagement is particularly relevant in supporting individuals facing a cancer diagnosis, where the exploration of inner landscapes can foster resilience, meaning, and a sense of purpose.
Mr. Sienko's approach is further enriched by significant spiritual and therapeutic training. He spent three years at the Transpersonal Therapy Center and has engaged in extensive studies with the Foundation of Shamanic Studies. His meditation practice is deeply informed by seven years of study under Zen Roshi Sunyana Graef. Furthermore, he has completed the "Foundations of Mindfulness" Program at the University of Toronto, thereby deepening his understanding and instructional capabilities in mindfulness practices. These skills are particularly beneficial for managing pain, anxiety, and the emotional distress often associated with cancer. Additionally, he is a trained Spiritual Director from Transformational Arts College and has participated in leadership trainings with the Mankind Project, underscoring his commitment to holistic development and community support.
His dedication to community engagement is evident in his long-standing roles; for seven years, he co-organized SWOPS, a monthly initiative focused on integration groups and meetings, which can provide a vital space for individuals with cancer to share experiences and build connections. Notably, he also led a men's support group for two decades, providing a consistent forum for growth and connection. Earlier in his career, Mr. Sienko contributed 13 years to the social work field, specializing in the critical area of domestic abuse, which speaks to his capacity for compassionate support in highly sensitive situations.
Through his comprehensive background as a group facilitator and meditation coach/teacher, Walter Sienko offers a unique and integrated approach to psycho-spiritual well-being specifically tailored for individuals impacted by cancer. His practice is grounded in a vast reservoir of wisdom, maturity, and a profound understanding of human purpose and spiritual essence, empowering individuals to explore their inner landscapes, cultivate resilience, and find greater personal integration during their cancer journey.
