Psychedelic Assisted Therapy for Groups
In recent years, much more attention has been paid to the mental health needs of front-line health care workers, first responders, and members of the armed forces. The intensity of the work, pressure to perform with inadequate resources, and frequent exposure to trauma leaves people in these jobs particularly vulnerable to burnout, depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use. The impacts can be devastating to the workers and their families: absenteeism and financial strain, damaged relationships with loved ones, and premature exit from the profession.
Eir Centre is proud to offer psychedelic assisted therapy programs in a group setting, specifically geared towards these professionals. Psychedelic medicines in conjunction with structured integration work have been proven to be effective in mental illness, as noted in the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health’s scientific review.
Psychedelic assisted therapy at Eir Centre for groups of 6 to 8 participants follows a structured approach:
An in-person medical assessment for each participant
Two preparation sessions with a therapist to discuss intentions and expectations, and coaching around distress tolerance skills
Weekend medicine and integration sessions in a calm, supportive setting, with medical and therapist facilitators on site
Follow-up sessions to help process the experience and apply new insights to daily life, or integration
